Normally, I really enjoy a book with a Scottish hero, but this one wasn't that great. The writing was solid, but I didn't like the characters. Ian was a jerk for most of the book, and Sarah came across as spineless, only defying her father's wishes when he's dead. She made a lot of bad choices, but it came across as she used the past to manipulate the situation to her advantage in a couple of different ways. The entire McLaughlin clan came across as a bit overbearing, as well. All in all, I'm open to giving the author a second chance, but not with the characters introduced in this series.
