I really feel like this book isn't good enough for 3 stars, but it didn't suck enough for 2 stars either. The book was all over the place. Charley's cases were again in a back seat role, though the serial killer one was of interest to me. It wrapped up too quickly though. There was a major reveal about the "War for the Portal", but again, it wasn't enough for me. Reyes was a total jerk early on in the book, and I didn't appreciate his secret keeping for most of it, so it was a good thing he was absent for a large portion of it. What this felt like was a mish-mash of little bits of plot threads, expertly woven into a story with some resolution. There was an interesting development at the end of this story, but with me only owning one more full length novel in the series, I'm not holding out much hope for continuing the series.
