I didn't like this one as well as the previous two in the series. At first, I found Almanzo to be very whiny, and always complaining about not getting what he wanted. As the book went on, I saw how hard he worked and how he somewhat deserved what he was asking for. I hated his siblings and was quite glad when they went off to academy! The chapter where the parents went on holiday went a bit too far, in my opinion, especially for young children reading this. I thought the book ended rather abruptly, though I did like the fact that his Father offered him a choice in where he wanted his life to go, and Almanzo's ultimate choice. All in all, it is a good look at how different Laura and Almanzo grew up.
